INSTALLATION. INTERIORS.
This competition was created by Tulane School of Architecture to design and build the CNC Millhaus Facade. Millhaus is home to the 3-axis CNC router at Tulane School of Architecture. The prompt asked designs to consider the new facade as signage for Millhaus. In response, we aimed to re-create the TSA Millhaus logo three dimensionally at a large scale. At a micro-level each band of wood is uniquely cut & finished, this is accomplished by adjusting the step-over rate and angle of each cut. While creating signage was a key element of the prompt, we also focused on treating the installation as an educational tool for architecture students. Prospective Millhaus users will be able to see a range of finish options on one consistent form. In contrast to wood, aluminum is rarely cut in Millhaus. For this reason, aluminum was desired to display the capabilities in materiality of CNC routing. These aluminum panels are then offset from the walls to emphasize the depth & slope of the wood running down the facade.

While at AWS:Reinvent 2024 Snowflake hosted a corporate event and party at the Wakuda Restaurant in The Venetian Resort. With limited ability to alter the interior of the restaurant, temporary dividers were designed to create semi-private meeting rooms throughout the restaurant. This Japanese winter concept aims to tie together Snowflake’s corporate identity with the existing environment in the restaurant interior.
Mental Wellness is something that has a profound effect on our lives as humans no matter if we have been diagnosed with mental illness or not. This is a subject that is very impactful for me because of how mental illness has affected my own life. Through years of treatment in individual and group therapy, I’ve learned concepts such as emotion regulation, coping skills, self-acceptance, and many more. Becoming exposed to these concepts as an adult it is easy to wonder “Why didn’t they teach us this when we were in school?” This proposal explores this question by beginning to provide children with building blocks to identify and understand emotion. One of the very first questions patients are asked when attending therapy is “How are you feeling today?” This is not only to establish background for the session but to help patients identify their emotions. While seemingly simple, this is a practice that is not always easy to master. This project creates interaction from children by referencing games & activities such as plinko, strength tester, and Newton’s cradle. In this proposal scaffolding is achieved through creating physical emojis that children can interact with and begin to relate emotions to in this digital age. Content is layered starting with the six core emotions of Joy, Love, Surprise, Fear, Anger, and Sadness along with their emoji counterparts. Specifically, in “Plinko” this increases complexity by including more specific branch emotions in the outcomes at the bottom. In “Strength Tester” children interact though physical activity and competition, seeing how high they can achieve on the meter. This piece displays intensity of emotion and action/reaction on a scale of 1-10. Finally, in “Newton’s Cradle” a 1:1 cradle is constructed with physical emoji’s conveying the idea that emotion is constantly changing and moving.

Grasshopper for Rhino allows for designers to create through process rather than a preconceived idea. These three distinct water holding vessels were created with one Grasshopper script. While the vessels were inspired by the water catchment abilities of the pineapple plant each form becomes drastically different by altering graphic and numeric values.
